Oana M. Baković is a contemporary fine art photographer whose work explores our fragile connection with the natural world. Her practice focuses on wild and sometimes endangered flora, natural movement, and fleeting moments shaped by light, weather, and season. Born in Constanța, Romania, on the Black Sea, to a Croatian father and a Romanian mother, Baković draws on a multicultural background and the landscapes that have shaped her life. Photography began alongside a career in advertising, initially as a way of documenting everyday life, before becoming her main artistic focus in 2020. Working primarily with handheld flash, ambient light, and motion, she photographs flowers and plants in their natural environments. Her approach avoids staging or arrangement, allowing wind, light, and imperfection to remain part of the image. Through this process, she seeks to translate a personal connection with nature rather than present idealised scenes. Baković’s work has been recognised by the Sony World Photography Awards, The Independent Photographer, the International Photo Awards, and the British Photography Awards. Her photographs have been featured in publications including CNN Style, Forbes, Aesthetica Magazine, Amateur Photographer, Photo Vogue, and LensCulture. She has exhibited internationally, including at Willy-Brandt-Haus in Berlin, the Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego, and The Other Art Fair in London. Selected works are held in museum and gallery shops in Switzerland and the UK. Her practice continues to develop through long-term projects that explore ecology, time, and the emotional experience of being close to the natural world.
