It has a crystal clear sea, uncontaminated nature and quarries of precious calcarenite, but it is a difficult island to manage, because it is arid due to the strong sun and windy. The extraction and processing of calcarenite represented a great source of work and income in past for the inhabitants of the island It is precisely among these open-air quarries, among caves, tunnels and labyrinths that the most surprising and magical beauties of Favignana are found, the underground gardens. A beautiful story to know is that of "the impossible garden of Villa Margherita". A redevelopment work of this place, carried out by the owner who in 30 years has transformed, with her love for the island, a hostile and barren labyrinth into a splendid botanical garden. A 40,000 m2 underground paradise with 500 species of plants from all over the world. Hibiscus, palm trees, fruit trees, olive trees and native flora. It has a suggestive and unique morphology, precisely because it develops within the underground spaces made up of calcarenite quarries. It is called "Garden of the Impossible" because when the owner decided to create it, all the islanders told her that it would be an impossible undertaking, due to the predominantly arid morphology of the island. She, fearless and carefree, fortunately decided to follow her dream and her instinct, creating something unique in its splendor. "The garden of the impossible" is not only a botanical museum, but also a historical one, precisely because it merges with the history of the island. In 2010 the "Ipogean Gardens of Villa Margherita" were registered in the Book of Expressions of the REIL Egadi Islands as they represent a high expression of the cultural heritage of humanity
