This constructed photographic landscape is part of my half-frame photography series. The half frame camera was common in the 1960's and placed two 24 X 18mm images into the space of a traditional 24 X 36mm format. Although largely forgotten today, when used creatively they offer a unique way to tell a photographic story. This image was constructed by taking three pictures in a series overlooking the French city of Marseille. While I attempt to line the pictures up simultaneously to create a harmonious horizon and perspective, perfection is impossible. Instead, when used this way, the half-frame format creates a world of its own. There is a certain dupicity from one frame to the next and images never line up perfectly. But that is part of the charm of these photographic constructions and something that holds the viewers attention longer. And as a photographer I am realising something bigger and more complex than a traditional single image frame image. 1 of 10 signed exhibition quality prints, personally printed by master printer Ryan Boatright on the highest quality papers (Hahnemuhle Fine Art Pearl) at the Atelier Boba (www.atelierboba.fr) in Paris France.
