Award-winning multimedia artist, photographer and filmmaker with a unique approach to capturing intimacy and beauty through high-end aesthetics.
Dan Carabas was born in Romania and moved with his family to Germany during the 1989 revolution. He found his way to photography at the age of 14, through an old analog camera owned by his father. In 2008, he began his career as a fashion and beauty photographer in Paris, refining a visual language characterized by sculptural composition and quiet sensuality.
Over a 18-year career, he has photographed editorials for international magazines including VOGUE, GQ, HARPER'S BAZAAR and ELLE, and shot campaigns and commercials for brands such as GIORGIO ARMANI, RALPH LAUREN, MERCEDES-BENZ, LOUIS VUITTON, THE BODY SHOP and UNIVERSAL MUSIC.
In 2016, he relocated to Berlin and gradually shifted his practice from commercial work toward fine art — first through film, then through sculptural photography, and most recently through Japanese rope art. In 2024, he founded Shibari Studio Berlin, a dedicated space in Berlin-Mitte for tantric-shibari workshops, private sessions and artistic rope projects exploring intimacy, presence, and the language of touch.
His fine art works have been exhibited at KUNSTHALLE WIEN and the ESSL Museum, among others, followed by solo exhibitions at GALERIE DURET in Paris and Brussels. His work has been featured in the book series BLICKFANG — Germany's best photographers, as well as in Séparée and KISSED Magazine.
