Dana & Stéphane Maitec have worked together since 1996 and have formed an artistic duo since 2002. Living and working between Paris and Bucharest, they develop projects situated at the intersection of photography, installation, light, and contemporary reinterpretations of cultural heritage. Members of Maison des Artistes, their work has been exhibited internationally in Paris, Arles, Brussels, Antwerp, Amsterdam, Geneva, Rome, Bologna, Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Hong Kong, and other cities. Their photographs have appeared in publications including The Financial Times, Elle International, Worth Magazine, Where Magazine, and Paris Magazine. Their works are part of numerous private collections across France, Monaco, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Romania, the United States, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, New Zealand, and Mexico. Over the years, their photographic universe has included personalities from film, fashion, and contemporary culture, among them Samuel L. Jackson, Naomi Campbell, Heidi Klum, Eva Longoria, Michelle Rodriguez, and Kim Kardashian. Yet beyond portraiture, their practice has gradually evolved toward a more conceptual and immersive visual language, where photography becomes both image and spatial experience. Their series Reflections, exploring the fluid relationship between light, abstraction, and photography, was exhibited at the National Museum of Art of Romania. In this body of work, photography becomes a field of reflection, colour, and movement, situated at the intersection of abstract art and light sculpting. Their recent projects explore memory, ornament, and the transformation of traditional visual codes into contemporary forms. In works such as Il tesoro ricamato delle Regine, photography moves beyond representation, becoming a field of rhythm, texture, and structure. Their large-scale works approach embroidery and textile details as systems of signs reinterpreted architecturally and monumentally. Their exhibition Il tesoro ricamato delle Regine, developed in collaboration with the National Heritage Institute of Romania and the Royal Family Collection Foundation, is currently touring Italy following presentations at the Museo Nazionale Etrusco di Villa Giulia in Rome and Palazzo d’Accursio in Bologna, continuing in Florence and other Italian cities.
