About The Artwork

This project was inspired by the fore-father’s of photography, the Victorian alchemists who devised chemical processes which could "capture light." These early processes had very unique colour shifts due to the chemicals they used. It was these surreal landscapes that captivated Andy's interest and imagination and using a home built large format pinhole camera he went about photographing The “Grands Projets” of François Mitterrand in Paris. These bold monochromatic images have a jewel like quality to their colour, portraying iconic Paris as you've never seen her before. These images are photographs in their purest form, produced purely with chemistry & love. No digital manipulation has taken place. Limited to 100 editions.

Born in Staffordshire, England in 1972 to an English father and Anglo Indian mother, Andrew Carver grew up in and around the contrasting industrial and farming landscapes of the midlands. His life in photography began as an interest and developed into a vocation through higher and further education. After graduating in Fine Art Photography in 1996, Andrew started as a freelance photographic assistant in London working with some of the leading photographers in their fields. His unique and contemporary style did not go unnoticed; in 1998 after being asked to participate in the London Contemporary Photography Fair, the British Journal of Photography (BJP) wrote, “Exhibitors will include many of the UK’s brightest up-and-coming contemporary photographers…Leading names include…Andy Carver.” Still based in London, his work now largely revolves around a long held interest in the inter-relationship that exists between architecture and people. Whilst Andrew has a solid foundation in large format film cameras, he as worked with digital systems since they first arrived on the professional scene around 2001/2. To date his clients include design agencies, corporate clients, architects and construction companies.
