ABOUT THE ARTWORK
photographic collage printed on Hahnemuhle rice paper This work was made while on a residency in Northern Georgia in the summer of 2014 using a group of roadside daisies I encountered while out walking. In my studio I arranged them in a vase in front of a window and made dozens of pictures, which I combined in photoshop to make a work in which the feel of light moving through and around the plants is as much a part of the work as the daisies themselves. The work is subtle and beautiful. It creates a window in a space. This work has been exhibited at the Southwest School of Art in a solo exhibition I had there in 2016.

Elizabeth Chiles is an American artist based in Austin, Texas whose work explores the intersection of physical and subjective worlds through abstract photographic collage, natural pigment painting and writing. Elizabeth pushes the boundaries of photography and its possibilities, making intangible concepts—including time, perception and consciousness—visible to viewers. Her process results in artworks that embrace the wonders of existence and reveal nature's persistent beauty. Elizabeth has taught over 30 photography and art theory courses at UT Austin and Texas State University.
