Simon Bolton is a British visual artist working across photography and digital image construction. His practice sits between documentary sensibility and contemporary visual abstraction.
With over 35 years of experience, he has worked across editorial, commercial, and fine art photography.
His early career includes work for national and international publications. These include The Daily Telegraph, NME, and The British Medical Journal. He has completed commercial commissions for brands such as IKEA, Toyota, HSBC, Vodafone, and the NHS.
In this new body of work, Simon Bolton reimagines landscape as a symbolic and intuitive space. Drawing on ancient systems of meaning and emotional interpretation, Bolton constructs photographic compositions that reflect internal states rather than literal scenes.
Natural elements — flowers, stones, horizons and crystalline forms — are reconfigured into quiet, contemplative environments that speak to transformation, grounding and inner navigation.
Developed during the uncertainty of the COVID years, the series responds to a moment when familiar structures shifted and individuals were compelled to look inward for stability.
Bolton’s images hold the stillness of that period: the pause, the searching, and the subtle recalibration of meaning.
Presented here at the gallery, the series highlights Bolton’s ability to move between documentary sensibility and symbolic abstraction, offering a reflective space where the emotional landscape becomes as significant as the physical one.
Bolton holds an MFA in Documentary Photography from the University of Wales. His work has been recognised by the International Photography Awards in 2020 and 2021. His piece Three of Wands was selected for the Saatchi Art Best of 2024 Collection.
His fine art photography explores the relationship between landscape, perception, and symbolic visual language. Natural environments are transformed into layered photographic compositions that move between observation and imagination.
