About The Artwork

I made this image while a graduate student in fine art photography. I was influenced by the sculptural pepper images made by Edward Weston. When I went to the supermarket one day, this one stood right out. I took it back to the studio and photographed it from various angles. This was the first one, thus is titled Pepper #1. The title also recalls Weston's titles where he simply numbered them. I made one or two gelatin silver prints of it, which have since disappeared. This one is made from the scanned medium format negative, adjusted and retouched in Photoshop, and printed on Epson Exhibition Fiber paper with a professional printer using Epson K2 archival inks. which have a longevity rating of over 300 years. The paper size is 22" X 17". There is a border of 1" on the left and right, and a border of 3.5" on the top and bottom. It is titled and numbered on the under the image on the lower left, in archival pen, and signed and dated on the lower right under the image, in archival pen. The date of printing is on the reverse.

BLACK FRIDAY SALE ON MY WEBSITE https://russmartinandmarciamartin.com Mr. Martin is a citizen of the USA, having been born in upstate New York State and spending his youth in the small rural village of Clinton. Because of this exposure, and frequent trips to their summering spot in the Adirondack Mountains, nature became a part of him. Naturally, it would become expressed though his art, which was inspired by his father, a part time professional photographer and amateur watercolor painter. When he was young, professional cameras were ever present, as well as a fully equipped darkroom. There was a mystique about photography, and "that place", that he wanted to know, so he convinced his father to teach him. Thus began a life long career as a fine art photographer. Later, he went on to study fine art photography at college, and earn an MFA in photography so as to be able to teach photography on the college level, have time to produce his work, and earn a living from what he loved. He was a fine art photography teacher for over thirty years, and is now retired, having done so in 2008, to concentrate full time on his work. Over the years, Mr. Martin has won numerous awards and feature articles have been published about him in national and international publications. Recently, his pictures have been featured in the UK, Australia, and the USA. His flora images of hosta plants have won first place awards in the Prix de la Photographie, Paris, the International Photography Awards (The Lucies), and the International Garden Photographer of the Year.
