About The Artwork

Please note that this artwork is a Giclee print of an EPHEMERAL artwork. Limited Edition of 10 Dimensions given are the printed area - the paper size is A2 (42 x 59.4cm) The Peripheral Vision series is inspired by the beauty of the New Zealand landscape. Layered, undulating and partially hidden forms allude to hidden geological features. Repeated geometric shapes are representative of man's activities and the impacts, both seen and unseen, on natural rhythms. The process used to create these Fibre Art Prints is not unlike that used to paint a conventional picture. Tufts of coloured fibre are placed in layers and then details carefully added. The difference being that my "paints" are wool and silk fibres and my hands are the brushes. Artworks are then photographed and reproduced using the highest quality printing techniques and materials. The depth of colour and dimension in these unique artworks makes them truly eye catching. The sheen of the silk fibres lends a truly three dimensional quality to each piece. The capture of this particular type of fibre art is unique to Caroline Burton, Fibre Artist.

I am a contemporary fibre artist residing in New Zealand, creating abstract artworks. Inspired by a fascination with tiny or hidden details, nuances of light and emotion in our physical and spiritual environment, my work is often informed by my background in engineering. Having always been passionate about expressing my creativity, for the last 5 years I have taken a medium that is traditionally “crafted” and developed my own technique and artistic voice. I find the process of painting and sculpting with unspun fibres fascinating with every new piece that I create. There is an alchemy to the process of transforming wisps of fibre into something with form, structure and strength. Feltmaking is an ancient art form which allows the artist to explore a subject in a unique way. Incredibly fragile at the outset of the process, becoming increasingly tactile and physical as the fibres intertwine and lock together. Becoming fascinated with the fragility and beauty of the fibre art in the early stages of the process, I have recently developed a method of creating and capturing unique, ephemeral fibre art works. These I reproduce as fibre art prints.
