I am a contemporary fibre artist residing in New Zealand, creating abstract artworks. Inspired by a fascination with tiny or hidden details, nuances of light and emotion in our physical and spiritual environment, my work is often informed by my background in engineering.
Having always been passionate about expressing my creativity, for the last 5 years I have taken a medium that is traditionally “crafted” and developed my own technique and artistic voice.
I find the process of painting and sculpting with unspun fibres fascinating with every new piece that I create. There is an alchemy to the process of transforming wisps of fibre into something with form, structure and strength.
Feltmaking is an ancient art form which allows the artist to explore a subject in a unique way. Incredibly fragile at the outset of the process, becoming increasingly tactile and physical as the fibres intertwine and lock together.
Becoming fascinated with the fragility and beauty of the fibre art in the early stages of the process, I have recently developed a method of creating and capturing unique, ephemeral fibre art works. These I reproduce as fibre art prints.
