I met Jackie for one of my first "on the road" projects. To be totally honest, my inexperience at this point was as high as my naive enthusiasm. I bought a plane ticket from Paris to Cape Town, and only once landing there, realized I should probably have organized meetings with model agencies a long time before even buying the tickets. Naivety sometimes pays though, at least I was lucky enough then to say that now. Minutes after checking in the hotel, I spent straight up about half an hour in my room to go through all the main agencies websites, gather a quick book of my first shooting trips, and walked across the city directly to the agency I liked most. I knocked on the door, explained on the intercom my proposal, and here I was, going through impressive barbed fences and walking up stairs to meet the agency director. Two days later, Jackie appeared, a tall and easygoing beauty, moving gracefully, laughing easily, and with a little dreamlike glance. While driving down from Cape Town to Cape of Good Hope, her soft eyes were constantly sweeping at the world around us, easily amazed by a beautiful landscape here, the crossing of an ostrich there, and sharing with me the same joy of an extraordinary encounter with Cape Penguins in Boulder Beach. When shooting these projects, I never ask my models to « be » or « do » anything. I simply manage to create a space where they can be themselves, and photos after photos, feel more and more confident about their inner and outer beauty. A space where they feel free to express, free to behave, happy to be. Shot at the end of the day, this portrait shows a dreamy side of Jackie, a little glimpse of her inner world. Her perfect profile and her dreamy gaze are gently lit by early dusk light, when the sun has barely disappeared behind the horizon, and all that remains is a peaceful feeling of having had a full on beautiful day. David André was born in New Caledonia, a small french island in the middle of the Pacific ocean. Growing up in Toulouse, south of France, BMXing, snowboarding, traveling and studying engineering took a major part of his youth. Attracted by snow, nature, mountains, he first launched his professional photographic project in the 3 Valleys, french Alps. After a few years of shooting for skiing and snowboarding magazines, he gradually broaden his scope with communication and editorial projects for brands, institutional clients and advertising agencies, a wonderful playground to develop its creativity. Always looking for new challenges and willing to improve its photographic univers, he has launched since 2013 personal projects. Taking fashion models on the road all over the world, he started shooting series on a slow pace rhythm, stories halfway between trips through girls, and girls through trips. Self taught photographer, these projects still remain nowadays a laboratory to experiment in a free frame, express his love for travelling, human connection, and his poetry for freedom and life on the road. David André currently lives in Meribel and works all over the world.
