Martin Adolfsson is an Artist and Photographer working at the intersection of Photography, Technology, and Behavior. His work focus on visual culture and its impact on society and the norms we adhere to. By integrating emerging technologies such as machine learning and apps into his work Adolfsson looks to transform the way we interact with photography from a two-dimensional medium to an interactive art form. As a result, Adolfsson’s projects “outsource” the act of picture taking to the audience and thereby encourage active participation in the work. Through this process, Adolfsson merges abstract concepts such as our relationship to memories and awareness around the subconscious with an accessible and often humorous language as a “way-in” for the audience. Adolfsson’s work draws inspiration from areas such as behavioral psychology, commercial photography, and computer science. By utilizing distribution platforms such as App Store and PlayStore the work reaches an audience that might not otherwise interact with the type of projects. Having worked as an advertising photographer for some of the world’s largest brands has informed both his visual language and understanding of the outsized impact visual cultures have on society in ways we’re often unaware of. Adolfsson’s work has been featured in Wired, Financial Times, ARTE, Vice, Monocle, CNN, The Atlantic, etc.
