McKane often refers to himself as an Artist but as you talk to him about the work being done in the Pacific, he will sometimes use the word "Actionist". Much needs to be done in the protection of Our Oceans and by creating these extremely rare works of art and showing them around the world, McKane is able to fund his expeditions to remote places to give us a glimpse of what is there that we still need to protect.
McKane explains, "Less than 1% of the world's population has put their head in deep water to see the wonders of the ocean, yet it is compromised of 71% of our entire planet. I know that its hard to hear about the damage we are doing to the Oceans but I also know whats there to protect and how can you possibly fall in love with something you haven't explored?"
This series of work featured a man playing to the ocean. If you look closely this man is playing a violin in the far distance. The idea of playing to the ocean is sharing a common interest between the humpbacks that were singing below, the coexistence of man and cetacean and our life support system known as the ocean. Without it we would not exist and we must learn how to protect this delicate ecosystem as it is responsible for every second breath.
There are only 10 of these pieces to be made at this size.
This work sits exactly 1 inch from the wall and its dark composition is sure to stop anyone in their tracks.
