A fragmented marble torso stands within the shadowed interior of a Roman palazzo, illuminated by light entering from behind. I was drawn to the contrast between the damaged body and its powerful physical presence. Though the figure has lost its limbs, the tension of the torso and the fall of the dra...

About the Artist

Rob Haff

United States

Rob Haff is a fine art photographer whose black-and-white images explore the architecture, statuary, atmosphere, and urban landscapes of Rome. His work is drawn to form, proportion, harmony, and the emotional force of classical beauty—qualities associated with the Apollonian ideal.

For nearly two decades, Rome has remained his central artistic inspiration. He photographs the city’s Renaissance and Baroque palazzi, villas, ancient sites, classical statuary, and quiet architectural spaces not simply as monuments, but as living presences shaped by light, shadow, history, and memory. His images seek to reveal the enduring spirit of Rome: its grandeur, silence, mystery, and timeless visual order.

Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Rob is the son of a photographer and grew up surrounded by photography. After college, he built a makeshift darkroom in his Miami Beach apartment using an enlarger inherited from his father’s graphic arts business. That early experience with traditional black-and-white printing continues to inform the patience, discipline, and tonal sensitivity of his work.

Rob’s photographs have been exhibited in Miami, Minneapolis, Vermont, Fort Lauderdale, and Naples, Italy. His series Echoes in Stone was selected as the Featured Portfolio in Issue No. 176 of LensWork magazine in 2026. His work has also appeared in Black & White Magazine, Outdoor Photography, SHOTS Magazine, Gulf Stream Literary Magazine, Blackbird Literary Magazine, and other photography and literary journals.
