About The Artwork
This photograph is based on a lesson from Ansel Adams wonderful book "The Camera". The lesson uses The Conservatory of Flowers in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park as an example of a subject that is a good test of a photographer's skill in view camera adjustments, capturing a properly exposed negative and the art of print making. This formal study of the conservatory was taken on a bright mid-afternoon in early August with a 4"x5" view camera, as suggested in the lesson. The resulting print shows a great range of tones from dark black, nice mid-tones to bright white, while holding very sharp detail.
