Harvey Castro is a documentary photographer and multidisciplinary artist who transforms traditional photography into immersive experiences through experimental processes and installations. Born in Nicaragua and based between Oakland and Mexico City, his work explores climate change, migration, and identity while bridging personal narratives with broader social issues. His work transforms traditional documentary photography through alternative processes—cyanotypes toned with cochinilla and coffee, sublimation on vintage fabrics, and site-responsive installations using materials like FEMA tarps and translucent textiles. Castro's installations, including "Esa Sombra eres Tú" at Koik Contemporary and "Cuerpo Substancia Extendida" at Museo Morelense de Arte Contemporáneo, create immersive environments where viewers physically encounter these narratives. His multimedia work "Do Not Come" juxtaposes political rhetoric with climate disaster footage, challenging migration discourse. A Center Santa Fe Excellence in Multimedia Storytelling Award recipient (2023), California Creative Corps Fellow, and Eddie Adams Workshop alumnus, Castro continues using art as a tool for social change and environmental justice.
