This art work is part of "The Decay Of Religion" Collection, and is available in 2 sizes, Small and Museum. A huge chandelier still hanging from the ceiling after this church was damaged by an earthquake... An evening driving around checking out possible places to photograph during a trip to Italy, my friend and I were trying to find a way in to this majestic church. It involved climbing an eight feet wall so I decided to wait by the car. After a little while my friend returned and was ecstatic, telling me he found a way in and explaining what he had seen. It was hard for me to grasp and honestly I thought he was exagerating a bit. The next morning we got up early and went back with our gear, hoping we would still get in. And yes, we could. I walked in and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I had tears in my eyes and was filled with emotion, and my friend was looking at me with an expression on his face that said “I told you ;)”. The thrill of finding unseen places is hard to explain, seeing beauty you never thought you would see, it can get very emotional. Limited edition of 50. Signed and numbered with a certificate of authentication. Printed on high quality fine art paper Hahnemühle Fine Art Baryta 325 g/m² by Atelier Claire Deprez, a professional printer specialised in fine-art printing who I have worked with for years.

My name is Valerie Leroy and I'm from Belgium. Since I was a kid I have always been creative, I went to music school at the age of 8, I started playing the guitar when I was 9, and I did ballet. At the age of 16 I decided to do Visual Arts, where my love for drawing and painting came out even more. Later on, when I was 19 I started my Graphic Design studies at the university. Photography has always been a part of my life. My dad had a dark room at our house and I learned how to develop photos myself. Amongst all the different creative outlets photography is my favorite, I am never without inspiration. My preference goes to derelict places, the thrill of gaining access, and seeing how beautiful they are inside. I try to capture the beauty so that other people can see it through my eyes. Each photograph takes a lot of time planning, traveling, finding a way inside... In 2018 I had a traumatic brain injury which made it hard to keep doing my passion with as much energy as I was used to. I can't go on adventures as I did before and working on my art has become a more scheduled passion, I can't put as much time and energy in it anymore due to my injury, which is very frustrating and hard to deal with. I recently decided to look back on the photos I took before the accident and I started reworking them. So I'm adding old/new work bit by bit.
