ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Statement - Studies have shown that trauma changes the wiring of the brain. Awareness of the damage that trauma causes will help you realise that you're not irreversibly damaged. And just as your brain changed in response to your past experiences with the world, it can also change in response to your future experiences, ie. the brain is malleable. A steady dedication to the rewiring of the brain takes effort, repetition, and time. Description - After a fight I took my camera and walked the streets of Cape Town trying to work through the anger, disappointment, and frustration. This triptych was the result. Material - Fine-Art Giclee Canvas | Fine-Art Giclee Paper | Diasec |

I was born and raised in Vanderbijlpark, a small town in the Gauteng Provence of South Africa, in 1969. It's a heavily industrialised area where the sky is pale, grey, or brown. Not knowing what I wanted to do with my life, a friend suggested I further my education in photography. It was then that I found an outlet to the pressing need for expression, without the misunderstood external gesticulations that limit the souls' expression. The purpose behind my work is to share what I have learned, i.e. with every experience, the good and the bad, life loves, teaches, incubates, protects, nurtures, and sets us free to live and prosper if we so choose. At the age of 48, I left my hometown and moved to Cape Town, South Africa, where I currently reside, and the sky is always blue.
