The Little Bear is a compelling black and white photograph capturing an evocative and tender moment in the life of a young girl. Dressed in a soft, furry hoodie with bear ears, she stands alone against a blurred, natural backdrop that recedes softly into the distance. Her gaze meets the camera with a mixture of vulnerability and quiet strength, embodying the complex emotions of childhood—innocence, curiosity, and a subtle melancholy. This photograph was taken using an 8x10” large format camera on Ilford HP5 film, a classic film stock that offers excellent contrast and a wide dynamic range. The large negative size allows for incredible detail, from the texture of the fleece hoodie to the delicate features of the girl’s expression. The use of Ilford HP5 also contributes to the image’s rich grayscale and nuanced shadows, providing a timeless quality that echoes both documentary and fine art traditions. The print is made with archival inkjet technology on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Baryta 315gsm paper. The paper’s beautiful texture enhances the depth and subtlety of the grayscale, adding richness to the photographic tones. Measuring at an impressive 176x142 cm with white borders, the print makes a powerful statement, ideal for large gallery spaces or collectors of fine art photography. This print is available in a strictly limited edition of 12, each one signed by the artist on the reverse side and accompanied by an artist’s seal and unique edition number. The Little Bear explores themes of childhood innocence and identity, while at the same time offering a subtle commentary on isolation and introspection. The juxtaposition of the childlike bear costume and her solemn expression makes this image a captivating blend of whimsy and introspective depth. It’s a poignant moment, frozen in time, that invites viewers to contemplate the complexities of youth.

Once I was asked: “What is the truth?”. I did not understand the question. What is art? Through our lives we, in one form or another, are trying to discover the meaning of our existence, to satisfy our curiosity and achieve satisfaction through such achievement. It is one's inevitable limitations and inhibitions which frustrate such efforts but which also frequently drive people with artistic spirits to create outside their comfort zone and in some extreme cases leads even to their destruction. I would like to see my art as an unrestricted journey of self-discovery and exploration in search of elusive answers to those and other questions which are often more difficult to understand than to answer. I remember once, my emotional, and admittedly elaborative art expose about my paintings, was abruptly interrupted by a friend, and an artist, saying: “You should not explain the art. The true art speaks for itself”. Forget prolonged explanations. Art is an expression in itself. Just as much as reality is just merely our perception. Is it not?
