The Question Of Subversiveness #2 is created by 19th century photographic process Wet Plate Collodion, Tintype. Tintype is a photograph made by creating a direct positive on a thin sheet of metal in this case aluminium. The Question Of Subversiveness #2 comes framed, the size of the plate is 4.3" x 4.3" the size of the frame is 10"x10". Tintype plates are signed by metal stamp engraved into plate, sometimes i would scan my plates before i do engraving so you might not see it in digital file but physical plate is always engraved. The wet plate collodion is 19th century photographic process. It was in use at the time of American Civil War and it was a fairly complicated procedure. Whether making positives or negatives, from the time the plate is coated with collodion to the development, the collodion must remain wet or the plate loses sensitivity, you have around 10 minutes otherwise the plate starts drying off, when you work on the location in the hot weather as you can imagine you would get less then 10 minutes. A positive image on aluminium is called tintype or ferrotype. For me tintype is unique because the plate that you see on the wall in a gallery it is the same plate that was in the camera, there is no negative, there is only one image its almost like a painting. I like to push it even further by hand colouring my plates, or scratch it, or pinching a text on the plate by using a metal letter stamps and hummer. Please visit my website to explore more of experimental work with wet plate collodion process. This work is part of series The Question Of Subversiveness. In this series i focused on our broken dreams as it contrasts with a modern city drenched in pollutions, the mirrors in a desert reflects back to us those dreams in peaceful harmony giving us a hope for the world in a state of crisis.
