The mountains parted, opening the way for the river. These faults hide an ancient history — millennia of precipitation, tectonic shifts, and life frozen in stone. My name is Karina Ananikian. My photography practice I started because of the internal call. I liked to make beautiful pictures. Later I wondered what makes the shot recognizable and how to get that very photo so that every frame is unique, a unit, not a streaming image. Then the idea came: "From already existing create not yet existing". I started experimenting, studying the effect of light and color. Post-processing has always been an integral part of my work, but suddenly I allowed myself to take the frame away, let the original material change its meaning at its core, give the process whole, not knowing the result in advance, but feeling it in the process. And it started to work out, I was enjoying the visual pleasure of my work. At one point it wasn’t enough. I didn’t understand what was behind each picture, they started to seem empty. But how to solve this, I could not understand. Suddenly came the community of meaningful photography, taking into account context, thought, purpose. And it all turned around. It became clear how I should go on. I did visual research, suffered defeats, sometimes finding answers, but more often stumbling upon questions. This gave a new twist in development. Since then, my practice has become more conscious. And it seems that the next crisis is still far away.
