About The Artwork

This Flying V is dated by its maker, Karl M. Sandoval, July 12, 1984. It was originally ordered to compliment the black guitar with white dots that Randy Rhoads of Ozzy Osborne already owned. Before it’s completion Rhoads was killed in an airplane crash and the guitar was sold to a musician in New Jersey. I was photographing a wedding and the groom told me he played guitar. I showed him a few of my photos and his response was, “Do I have a guitar for you!”. Photographing this guitar was a challenge because it looked masculine to me. This guitar is all straight lines and sharp angles. Add to that the unusual black with white dots and I felt the only way to do it justice was to treat both model and guitar as abstracts. This is not an inkjet print. It is traditional photographic paper using wet chemistry. The print is then covered with clear lacquer. Then it is adhered to artist canvas on a stretcher frame. Once framed no glass is required as the lacquer will protect the image.
