I loved experimenting with the slow shutter technique and see how far I could go in creating a pictural feel to a photo, using solely my camera. Only this time, I wanted to almost confuse the viewer. Is it a painting? A photograph? I want that series to question our perception of reality. What is ...

I love to experiment and explore different styles and techniques in my work. I love street photography as much as fine art or more abstract photography. It's a constant evolution and I love going from one style to another depending on how I feel. I love street photography, because for me it’s all about being surprised. It's like going on a small journey into the unknown. I never plan, but I always look for three things. Good light, a great moment, and good frame. It’s rare to get the three at the same time. Thank to my background in documentary film making, I learnt how to train my eye, to anticipate a scene. It’s like a muscle, where I try to remain aware of my environment. I don’t look for a picture, I wait for the picture to come to me. There is spiritual element to it, where you can’t force anything. You have to allow for things to happen and be ready. I also love experimenting especially when the camera becomes a paintbrush, as I want to blur the frontier between photography and painting. I use a slow shutter speed to let more light and quick camera movements, to create a ghostly effect. It’s a lot of trial and error to get the right amount of blur. To create a painterly effect, I look for saturated colors, so I usually photograph during magic hours. So I focused on nature, on the sea and the trees, and evoke painters such as Turner, Gainsborough and Monnet. It's about evoking a feeling, rather than a depiction of a scene. Abstract pictures have the capacity to transcend the known, the obvious, and go straight to the heart, like a beautiful piece of music. It’s an assembly of colours and shape, that create harmony. Recently, I've taken up fine art photography in my studio where I've tried portraits, nudes, and other things. I love spending time lighting a subject. It's a more controlled approach and closer to work in films or in my commercial work as a fashion photographer. I am also using AI and mix it with real photography. Instead of being afraid of it, I want to use it as just another creative tool, and open up possibilities. I think photography is journey of self-discovery. It's an ongoing process to learn about parts of myself, about daring new approaches, and always pushing myself.
