About The Artwork

The Arenberg Trench. The most infamous sector within the Paris- Roubaix monument cycling race. Also referred to as The Hell of the North, riding this sector is a biblical experience that every cyclist keen on their cycling history should attempt to ride. Dating back to the late 18th century and set within the forest of Arenberg, an old mining area of Norther France, this is a 2.3km stretch of Napoleonic cobble stones aimed to test even the strongest rider. My image captures the solitude and atmosphere of a once busy and thriving industrial area of France that now awaits its one day in the cycling calendar for fame and infamy to separate the next vainqueur from his rivals.
