Yaroslav Amelin is a photographer and artist currently residing and working in Saint-Petersburg (Russia). He was born in 1981 to a family of geographers and spent most of his childhood in the country where nature fascinated him. Passion for hand-crafting woodwork led Yaroslav to obtaining a degree with distinction from Moscow State Forest University in 2003 but he felt the need to discover nature in a wider sense and started making his first serious steps in photography while in college. Having graduated, Yaroslav Amelin worked as an editor at ProFoto photography magazine contributing dozens of articles and seminars. Continuous development in the art of landscape photography led Yaroslav to a large format film camera and an expansive project documenting the nature of Central Russia. In 2010, he cofounded the largest photography gallery in Russia, the Gallery of Classical Photography, and led its development till 2015. Yaroslav Amelin also helped to found Moscow Photography Salon that united the majority of Russian galleries, private collections and collectors in the field of photography. Another important milestone was organizing three artistic expedition in the Arctic on a science vessel “Kartesh” in 2014-2016. Eventually, huge colour prints with increadible detail and tonal range that can only be achieved with large format film became the centrepiece of Yaroslav’s artistic style. The works of Yaroslav Amelin have been exhibited at over 25 personal and group exhibitions in Russia, USA, Italy, France and Japan.
