ABOUT THE ARTWORK

In the 'Uncertain things' series, I explore uncertainty that occurs in our ordinary life through the relation between everyday objects. I collect things that resemble my anxiety and uncertainty I encounter everyday. These objects, like measuring tape, shitty toys which are related to outer space, ornaments and artificial plants for aquariums, mean my desire to control everything. They are free from unsettlement and give me comfort from the thing that I’m unlikely to break anything because it’s not real. As developing its 'uncertainty' from random combination to 3d scanning, I find the meaning of uncertainty and its ironic beauty. Through repetitive replay in my brain, like continual reflection and over thinking, the object that represents my anxiety gets abstract and distorted. And again, through breaking this smudged shape like a stain into pieces, my anxiety and unsettlement start over as a new form. As objects enter the following phases like 2, 3 and 4, manipulated uncertainty of them gets escalated increasingly. In phase 2, I focus on virtual space where a random combination of objects is happening. In this space, the sculptures can be held together with other sculptures and destructed partially without any limit. Images of objects are fragmented, overly packed, zoomed and cropped to escalate the uncertainty in phase 3. In phase 4, I employ a 3d Scanning app to add unexpected distortion. Now in phase 5, the distorted fragments of uncertainty form into random patterns or masses. Like a snowball, the fragments are moving away from their original start as the volume of this mass gets bigger. In this process, I follow this process to seek the independent and pure beauty of its form and color. Particularly, in ‘Flow’ of phase 5, I try to visualize the rhythm when the pieces get tangled and shaped in a new form. By ‘not that loud’ rhythm of the form made of continual addition and repetition, I represent the 'calm but steady' expansion of the uncertainty . *The actual color of this work might be slightly different with what you are watching via your screen due to screen setting. *Please contact curator@saatchiart.com if you are interested in custom size.
