About The Artwork
One of the Chakra images I intended to create was for the third eye energy centre, the Ajna Chakra, and I wanted to use a close up of a Sadhu's face for the symbolic overlays. I looked in every town I visited in India, but it wasn't until I got to the holy town of Varanasi that I felt confident to find one with a dramatic enough face to make a high impact image at the large size I intended for the final prints. Wandering along the Ganges riverside one day, this Shiva sadhu in full gear suddenly appeared and I had no hesitation in approaching him for some shots. He agreed to the photography and I got my pictures, this being a black and white collodion style version of one of the close ups I shot. It was a very exciting process to look for and successfully get the results I had planned for after all the research that was done for the project.

I was born in Trinidad and Tobago and travelled all over the world with my parents before settling in The UK for my education. I went to Sherborne School and Reading University before moving to London to be a photographic assistant to many different photographers including Anthony Blake and Spencer Rowell. Then I moved to Australia to further my career in photography that is now 35 years long as a commercial and art photographer in Sydney. I have had several exhibitions including Transformation 1992, Lifeforce 1996, Sahaja 2000, and have completed new spiritual works, The Chakras, 2014 that are shown here on Saatchi Art. I now also teach photography with Alfonso Photo tours in Sydney. I have two websites, Chrisljonesphoto.com for commercial and sahajaprints.com for prints.
