Wave breakers, Hokkaido Photograph - Limited Edition of 5

My images usually include natural elements, but there are some specific types of artificial and human constructs that I really like, and sometimes I like to use them to complement a scene. And I love wave breakers so much that sometimes I end up using them as the main subject of my work. It was the case here: I was driving on a really long (and boringly straight) road in the north east part of Hokkaido, and all of a sudden I saw a huge group of these tetrapods near the beach. I had to try and take a picture. That turned out to be quite difficult, as the whole area wasn’t accessible by foot, so I had to get creative with my long lens and try to incorporate all these structures in a way that was pleasing but also made sense. I love how light and shadows play here, and I’m also really fond of the numbers on some of the blocks, as well as the overall symmetry. The original is printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Satin 310 gsm 100% Cotton white satin-finish paper and manually signed.
