About The Artwork

Probably the biggest problem with food photography is that it`s not people photography. What people really are interested in, are other people. With this photo series we try to create the missing link between both worlds. At first glance there`s the silhouette of rather glamorous women in elegant poses and dresses. Iconic high fashion imagery suggesting a world of luxury and plenty. By combining the vegetables into sculptures we are giving them a form and figure which people can identify with. Drawing inspiration from iconic fashion photographers such as Horst P. Horst, the world of high fashion is put in juxtaposition with plant based food. Visualizing the figure of speech "we are what we eat". This work is particular representative of our artistic practice for several reasons. We are always looking for new perspectives and different angles to tell our story. No challenge is to great - and building these statues, creating fashion images out of vegetables has been a real challenge. We are keen on avoiding post production techniques such as the use of photoshop as much as possible and by giving vegetables a fashionable look we promote plant based nutrition on another level. Jan Prerovsky/Photographer - Biography Born in 1978 in Havirov, Czech Republic. After his family emigrated to Munich, Germany in 1981, he grew up and studied in the Bavarian Capital. In 1998 he began studying politics at the Ludwig-Maximillian-University Munich. Meanwhile he worked as assistant for several photographers and devoted himself more and more to the work as a photographer. In the year 2000 he decided to fully focus on the work as photographer and started at Schneider-Press, one of the biggest German press agencies in the field of boulevard photography. Meanwhile working freelance for several Newspapers and agencies like Sueddeutsche Zeitung, dpa, and others. Besides the portrait and reportage work he ran a photo studio and worked on different projects. One of those, an experimental movie, “Road to Fokstugu” had his premier in Munich’s IMAX Theatre on the 19th July 2004 and was shown afterwards in movie theatres in 16 German Cities including Berlin and Hamburg. He traveled throughout Europe and overseas. In 2004 he decided to bring his career as boulevard photographer to an end and to move to Prague, Czech Republic for concentrating on his own projects. 2006-2008 He worked for the weekly paper “The Prague Post” where he covered everything from Reportage to Food and Restaurant photography. In 2008 one of his Cover pages for The Prague Post won an “Award of Excellence” in the European Newspaper Awards. Since 2008 he specialized in the field of food photography working closely together with the food stylist Ellen Klipatska. Since 2014 he also photographs Luxury Hotels for their marketing purposes. In 2019 he started together with Ellen the website Foodlydoodlydoo.com, presenting food recipes, photos and videos in a unique way. His work is published in newspapers and magazines all over the world. About Foodlydoodlydoo: Taking everyday objects out of context and presenting them under a different light has always been a popular technique for artists. In this spirit we focus on one of the most ordinary and yet surprisingly controversial objects: Food. The everydayness of food for obvious reasons does not require any further explanation. As a matter of fact, its value has seemingly decreased to a point where one might argue that for a large portion of the western industrialized world it has become a simple means to an end. Which is also mirrored in the mostly cliché-ful and repetitive imagery of it.
