'Womanfall' is an entirely site-specific installation. The hillside that inspired this piece is rather famous in Port Townsend, as it is located adjacent to a popular park and many kids have insisted upon scaling it, my own included. When I rediscovered this spot during a beach walk with my dogs, it just seemed like there should be water flowing there. Naturally, it seemed to me that the source of the water should be a woman. I was hoping to capture the feeling of a powerful, elemental force emanating from this woman’s body, like water breaking at the end of a pregnancy. The project required thirty yards of white cotton gauze, three evenings of stitching, many climbs up and down to tend to the site, a gutsy and lovely model, and one full year of contemplation.
