Barbara Fellner is working across different media, while using a variety of approaches and techniques. Selecting an appropriate subject is stimulated by translating her ideas and experiences into various forms of expression. Her fascination with black & white photography was the basis of her current work. Using a camera opened her eyes to unexpected views and she discovered beauty in objects like greenhouses, construction areas or shop windows. In the contours drawn by light and shadows she sees references to graphic art, painting and, on occasion, to sculpture. Carefully framing a scene in the viewfinder and capturing selected details on film conceives a new creative work in itself. Her collages are created in a long process of searching, finding and combining elements cut from magazines. Sometimes it takes months to find the perfect composition. Many elements including, colours and proportions, are carefully considered in an attempt to express the spirit of an inner world like in a poem. Equally as important as the creation of the original collage is the digitally remastering of the high resolution scan to create the final high quality image file. This image is then either printed on Hahnemühle Photorag or transferred onto Fujitrans and projected in custom-made lightboxes.
