The cherry blossoms blooming at the baseball field where I always take a walk were beautiful. I took this photo on a sunny day. It was magnificent. I was born in Tokyo in 1958. I still live there. In 1967, I entered Tokyo Zokei University and studied fine arts. After leaving university, I started working as a graphic designer in a design studio, and then worked in advertising as a planner and art director. In 1998, I became independent and started my own company with an acquaintance. I was very busy creating advertisements and web sites, but I also started creating artworks little by little. Then the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred. What was particularly shocking was the nuclear accident in Fukushima. I went to the site as a volunteer and felt the threat of nature and the strength of humans looking to the future. However, when I thought about the enormity of the damage caused by the nuclear accident, which was a man-made disaster, I felt mentally confused and needed to stop and sort things out in my head. So I left my commercial work and focused on creating artworks to reset my mind. I am a digital printmaker. The theme of my artwork is mainly to emphasize and amplify the beauty of natural forms. I want to extract the forms of plants and project the aura that life gives off onto a flat surface. Art can be many different things, but I want art to be more casual, to spice up our lives. I feel printmaking is the perfect medium for this. I also hope it can help viewers reset their minds, like soothing ambient music.
