The inspiration for this piece stems from the haunting beauty of Butoh dance, an avant-garde dance form that emerged in Japan in the late 1950s. When viewers look upon this piece I want them to grapple with their own interpretations of the piece, reflecting upon their inner battles, dreams, and the ever-present dance between the conscious and the unconscious. My choice of using BJD dolls as subjects, complemented by scaled objects, stems from my fascination with dreams and the unconscious. The scaled world lends itself beautifully to the realm of the surreal and the dreamlike.
