About the Artist

Salvatore Balice

Italy

I am a multidisciplinary artist born in Bari, the city where I currently live and work.
My training as an interior designer began in London, UK, over twenty-five years ago. I lived there for about seven years, gaining experience that deeply shaped my design sensibility and artistic language.
Over time, I have interwoven limited-edition furniture design—or "art furniture"—with painting, photography, and sculptural installation, often favoring the use of reclaimed materials. Complementing this plurality of forms is my musical background as a bassist, an experience that has further fueled an artistic inquiry rooted in rhythm, listening, materiality, and the invisible connections between different modes of expression.
It is primarily in my painting that my practice has progressively moved away from figurative representation, eventually shedding both the need for narrative meaning and any intent to conceptualize.
My works arise from listening to my inner silence: they do not illustrate, explain, or assert. They simply emerge.
They are an "utterance" devoid of intent, a manifestation that makes no claim to be deciphered or reduced to a predetermined meaning. They do not seek a meaning; they simply happen.
And, in that very act of happening, they ask to be heard.
