I have been painting since 1965. I am exploding with color, form and design. I look at life in the dimension of a painting. I became definite about my art in 1972, when I was at a friends studio. I just picked up a brush and started painting. I felt I had an undeniable power to be an artist. I discovered than that art was my true expression to explore all the anxeity, pain and love I see in life.
I am a career artist who for the past twenty years has photographed "Street Art" in major cities including Los Angeles.

Rita Northup is both a fine artist and an artistic photographer. She has been taking photos of graffiti on the streets in Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Venice, Italy, Barcelona, New York, Amsterdam and Paris for over twenty years. Her substantial portfolio of photos of Street Art have never yet been seen publicly and would make a valuable contribution to the exhibitions and collections of museums and galleries for their original perspective and the appreciation of the artistic character of graffiti they express. Ms. Northup speaks of the passion she feels for taking photos of the Street Art she discovers, "I have always seen great art in the streets. I feel my journey over these many years photographing street art has been a lonely one and not without personal risk." Ms. Northup welcomes the opportunity to share her photographs of Street Art with the Los Angeles art community.
