Tor-Arne Moen (1966 -) was born and grew up in the town of Notodden in Norway, where he started painting in oils at early age, in 1975. His education is from the College of Arts in Bergen, Norway, where he graduated in 1994. He has a studio at the premises of Norwegian Hydro´s old industrial plant since 1992. Throughout his career he has been working within various concepts of arts and several forms of figurative painting such as acts, portraits, still life, interiors, cityscapes, landscapes as well as different kinds of figure paintings. He has been working with a number of pictorial projects such as illustrations for the publication of the Norwegian author Knut Hamsun´s collected works. The recent paintings are basically painted with egg-oil tempera. Woodcut printmaking In 1996 Tor-Arne Moen built a workshop for production of colour woodcuts and developed a method using many sheets and thick layers of colours. The woodcuts are characterized by a wide range of colours and a saturated surface. The graphic art is to a great extent reflecting the different oil painting projects. In the last years Tor-Arne has produced a series of short films from his studio with the title: "Creation of a Painting". The films show the artistic process from the initial sketch to finished image. The films are available on YouTube under 'Tor-Arne Moen'.
