Variant 3 in artist Idil Sukan's new collection 'Byzantine Psychedelic', a collection and genre she conceived as she returned to her fatherland of Turkey to rediscover her artistic roots, developing a conversation with hundreds of different influences and emotions. Using bold patterns she developed directly influenced by traditional Byzantine tile design, she reconceptualises them, putting them in halted motion, undulating them to discover new patterns and dimensionality. The results are hypnotic and bold, both compelling and calming simultaneously. These prints would be a stunning addition to any boldly decorated, modern interior which still admires and champions traditional aesthetic origins and craft. This mini-collection of 4 within Idil's larger collection are 4 beautiful collectible variants. Each variant is a limited edition of 33, A3 size, printed on hand-rolled traditional paper. The full size of the paper is 29x42cm, the artwork itself inset within that. The artist oversees each print, hand-signing and numbering them herself in her studio in Istanbul.

Turkey
Idil Sukan is an artist, writer & Creative Director working in Istanbul, developing work at the intersect between visual art and storytelling, marrying both digital technology & artisanal craft. Her acclaimed fine art commercial photographic portraiture photos are regularly seen across the UK press, album covers and sleeves and book covers. Her work has been formally acquired by the National Portrait Gallery. Exploring identities within one individual and the gaps between them - how we choose to portray ourselves, how our identity is shaped by a series of curated depictions of ourselves (photographs in social media, in the press, on our personal websites) in contrast to how we unwittingly come across to others. The different contextual identities we develop, socially, at work, or in photographs - simultaneously confessional yet carefully cultivated.
