This large format woodcut print features an American Century Plant or Agave Americana. Think of the hearty plants that live around the western US or near Joshua Tree. The life cycle of these plants is 10-30 years and when they flower the stalk grows up into the air sometimes 20-30 feet. When I saw this event taking place in my neighbor's garden, and I noticed how the stalk became a perch for neighborhood birds for almost a year, I. wanted to commemorate this with a drawing which then became this print. It's a gorgeous woodcut print full of wood grain and simple details in the silhouette of this lovely Century Plant as it comes to the end of its life cycle.

ARTIST STATEMENT As a wood block printmaker, I use the medium to draw with light and shadow. The organic grain of wood serves as a reminder of our connection to nature and the uniqueness of each piece. Plants symbolize growth and resilience, reflecting my own personal journey. Through a labor-intensive process, I create art that conveys the fragility and strength of life. My hope is that my work encourages viewers to reflect on their relationship with the natural world and find comfort, inspiration, and growth.
