ABOUT THE ARTWORK

'E-1027' is an original 13-layer, hand-pulled, silk screen print on Archival Bread & Butter, bright white, 270gsm paper. 'E-1027' is named after one of Nathalie’s favourite modernist houses. This one situated in Roquebrune in the South of France. The house was designed by Eileen Gray in collaboration with her then-lover Jean Badovici. The name is a code for both of their names: E for Eileen, The number 10 for “J” for Jean (the tenth letter in the alphabet) The number 2 for “B” for Badovici (the second letter in the alphabet) and finally 7 for “G” for Gray (the seventh letter in the alphabet) The print was featured in the Chanel 4 TV program in the UK – George Clarke’s Old House, New Home.

Nathalie Kingdon is a French screen printer artist based in London, working from her studio at Wimbledon Art Studios. Silk screen printing has always been Nathalie's medium of choice, and she works essentially from images taken and collected from various sources of inspiration which are gathered through the years and in particular the South of France. Nathalie transforms and enhances imagery with a particular sense of colour, and juxtaposition of shape and form. She is interested in the new narratives that inevitably take place within the frame of the print, and the journey the process takes her on which naturally and organically evolves. Nathalie has most recently been experimenting with digitally manipulated and printed images, which complements her traditional methods of screen printing.
