Cellulose print on Japanese paper, 20.5 x 25.5cm, 2018. Edition of 10 Details: Limited Edition of 10 Signed and numbered on the front Cellulose print on Japanese paper 20.5 x 25.5cm Unframed About: Inspired by Vermilion Sands, a collection of short science fiction stories by J.G. Ballard. All the stories are set in an imaginary vacation resort called Vermilion Sands which suggests, among other places, Palm Springs in southern California. This hand printed, limited edition, monochrome art print on Japanese paper is one of a pair of prints that play with the idea of the same place from a different viewpoint, and compliment each other when hung together. The other artwork is Emerald Mount. Technique: Emerald Mount (West) began as a digital collage, assembling travel photographs to create an image which was then printed in reverse as a laser print (the toner of a laser print is needed, opposed to a regular inkjet print) and transferred to Japanese paper by using a solvent called cellulose thinners and rubbing the back of the laser print to transfer the toner and image to the paper to create an etching like finish.

Sherrie-Leigh Jones is an Artist and Printmaker based in Brighton, East Sussex. She creates limited edition and original landscape prints inspired by nature and changing seasons, offering the viewer a sense of escapism, a transportation to a new place and a journey through imagined landscapes. The Japanese woodblock printmaking movement known as Shin-hanga (New prints) and Sansuiga (Japan) or Shanshui (China); paintings which depict an idealised landscape using the forms of mountains, rivers, clouds and mist, inspire her prints. Mountainous landscapes and the romantic sublime also influence her work. To create her prints, she assembles collages using her travel photographs and photos taken on walks in the English countryside, which are then combined with paintings and occasionally found imagery. The finished compositions are then taken into the print studio to be exposed on screens and hand pulled as screenprints, resulting in the final artworks. Some prints are also hand printed using the cellulose transfer printing technique. Read more about the techniques used here. Jones exhibits in the UK and internationally, including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2021. Her work is held in Jeremy Cooper's Collection and private collections in the UK, France, Germany, Taiwan, New York and L.A. In 2020, she was awarded an a-n Bursary: Time Space Money, supported by a-n The Artists Information Company and Arts Council England, and in 2018 was invited to be a part of Woolwich Contemporary Editions. In 2015, Jones was awarded a Print Futures Award and in 2013, her SS13 collaboration with fashion label, To Be Adored (tba), featured on the front cover of Grazia China.
