Printmaking: Etching, Aquatint, Drypoint, Engraving, Japanese Paper on Paper.
Etching, layered Gampi Paper, Varnished, 72x48".
Color Etching, 16 Plates, Japanese Gampi Paper Varnished to a gossamer transparency, Eight Multi-Metal Plates. Intaglio is my life focus medium. My figure intaglios are inspired by a self-constructed problem of making nudes in the intaglio medium, yet using a 'Tongue in cheek humor' towards the etching media. Intaglio is my life focus medium. The print was etched and printed by me in my NM studio. Original drawing and printing was done in 1998 with my series "Falling Figures" and "Body Parts". The printings were stopped after the 9/11 tragedy due to my feeling that they became inappropriate. Continuation of printing this image began in 2007.
The use of irony is manifested towards the customs and/or traditions normally associated with etchings: For example, the assemblage of layers of unattached separately printed transparent papers instead of multiple plate registration on one piece of paper to make the image, thus destroying any chance of true registration of colors; Oversized image instead of hand held intimate print; Plates unpolished, blank, unbeveled nor dried flat and thus having odd effects on the printed paper, crushed prints and/or 3D images; Signature signed on the image and dates of printing used instead of edition numbers which allows for multiple experiments of printing. Edition is not more than 25 unique images. Sequence of printing is represented by publishing date, 1998-2017.
