Halcyon Days is part of a body of work based on the quote by Alfred Hitchcock. When asked for his definition of happiness, Alfred Hitchcock replied the following:“A clear horizon, nothing to worry about on your plate. Only things that are creative and not destructive." I remember watching the video of this interview and it really chimed with me. I was interested in finding places in London where we can find a balance to the busy and densely urban lives we live in the city and to create a series of prints based on that. Halcyon Days is based on the view from Parliament Hill, featuring Londons' well known ring necked parakeets. I love looking down on the city from this point, and wanted to create a print that felt nostalgic and had the feeling of long lazy summer days, which nothing to worry about 'on your plate'.

After receiving a degree in Fine Art and working commercially as a motion graphics designer for many years, Emma revived her interest in printmaking when she joined East London Printmakers and has gradually turned it into a full time practise. Much of her work shows an interest in finding the places in cities where we can take a moment of reflection from the busy and densely urban lives we live. Expansive skies, birdlife and a focus on Urban Oasis within the heart of the city form a large part of Emmas work. Her specialism is Fine Art Screenprinting, where she likes to mix between traditional printing methods and more experimental techniques, often using a paintbrush to paint and mix colours directly onto the silk screen. She uses multiple blends within her prints, to create depth and tone lending some of her prints a visual language more often found in paintings.
