About The Artwork

The nature of carborundum printmaking means of creating uniquely rich and interesting printed imagery. Carborundum printmaking is one of the most exciting innovations to take place within printmaking in recent decades. Unlike other intaglio and relief methods, which rely on a set of one or more highly technical processes, Carborundum allows one to work directly with materials, and to explore the qualities of those materials in a much more proactive manner than etching. The physical activity involved in creating a carborundum plate is much more in tune with the "intuition", or the direct interaction with materials. Carborundum is a printmaking technique which operates on the basis of collage. It is a particularly robust, direct and unfussy type of printmaking, with the distinct advantage that it helps one avoid the temptations of being too intentional with one`s images, as one might be with lino, line-etching, or silk-screen. Because the surfaces one creates are relatively unpredictable and indirect, one avoids the temptation merely to illustrate. Carborundum printmaking is so very versatile, exciting and full of potential as a means of creating rich printed imagery. It really is the closest the printmaker can get to painting, and, in addition, retains great scope for sculptural and graphic treatments.

I am a multidisciplinary visual artist working in Dublin, originally from Lithuania. I have been working as a landscape designer and architect for many years until I came to Ireland where I shifted my focus to a visual art in multiple artistic media with the main focus on printmaking. Currently I am a member of Graphic Studio Dublin. I often use different media, such as painting, drawing, printmaking, photography and installation when I create my artwork. I practice and develop my artistic skills based on the traditional techniques and experimenting with the new forms. My interests are to observe and analyse cultural, philosophical and environmental issues using alternative meanings and employing the language of semiotics. My artwork explores a contemporary world, myth, and fantasy conveyed through mixed media and printmaking. I want to extend the boundaries between reality and imagination: utopias and dystopias, heterotopias, alchemy and illusion, that are all used in my work. With a great pleasure, I invite you to follow my creative journey and find an artwork which inspires you.
