Lucien in Orange Print

Being a therapist I was inspired by Lucien Freud, his angst, his frenzied expression - of himself and what he painted. I have therefore named this series after Lucien. We can tell so much from a face, the eyes, the smile, a stare, what they want you to see of them. Picasso’s cubist style, Francis Bacon’s tortured distorted faces, Kahlo’s self portraits and Munch’s scream, and I am fascinated by faces. What appeals to me is not the portrayal of perfection like a Rembrandt, rather the expression of the inner angst and how this reveals the artist’s inner world. Here I am inspired by Lucien Freud’s work his frenetic intense energy and also the man.
