This piece was inspired by utilizing the method of the 'OBEY' image, combined with the persona of the 'Minneapolis Umbrella Man'. I wanted to choose a word close to obey but within my own context pertaining to the event. Oblivion is defined as; 1. a state of being unaware of what is happening around you. 2. the state of being completely destroyed. Due to the medium I had to create a realistic representation of the figure but I opted not to go for a photo realistic stencil. This is due to the drawn nature of the obey image, however I wanted to keep the elements which describe him; his hammer, umbrella and the distinctive purple filters on his mask. The text overlaid says: Everyone who is base and separated from him falls into the claws of wild beasts. This is written in red oil pastel.

Jonathan's art commonly employs multi layered imagery within the composition. The artist uses text, often drawn onto and defacing the depicted image. Imaginative play is a significant component of the work, he was influenced by Picasso's technique of "unlearning", emulating childlike drawings. The theme is typically characterized by this sense of unlearning and rejecting the coercion and conformity within popular culture.
