Sand, sea, warm sun, breeze, hazy light, relaxation, blissful deep rest. This image represents the quintessential ocean we all long for, and sometimes magically appears. On the island of Tortola, one of the British Virgin Islands, many of the beaches are challenging in winter with strong surfing waves and a swell that doesn’t invite casual swimming. However we discovered a beach on the north shore where isolated rocks gave way to flat sand, and where the locals go to swim. I was in heaven here, sitting on the sand with my sketchbook looking out over the ocean towards distant islands. The sketch I made here captured the spirit of the scene, and my own experience enhanced it. Coming home I was able to re-create in my studio the energetic lines of the surf and soft colours blending in hazy light. Gold lines indicate the flashes of light from the sun and the sparkling ocean waves. Using streams of colour to indicate the gentle movement and dynamic of the scene, 'Ocean' creates a balanced view that calms the mind. This Limited Edition, archival, digital print on canvas is gallery-wrapped on a 1.5 inch deep stretcher. It comes with a personally signed Certificate of Authentication, and is ready to hang on your wall. I prepare the print for Shipping myself, cover front and back with sheets of hardboard to fit snugly around the stretcher, then cover and tape the entire package with insulation board. I have found this to be a safe and effective system to prepare artwork for shipping. Insurance is recommended and the artist cannot be responsible for delays or damage during transit.

I live and work as a visual artist. My paintings are large, expressive canvases - dynamic figurative art revealing energy within the human form, in and through our environment. I paint on a daily basis and teach locally in our community. Having been part of Galleries and Studio-Galleries during my career as an artist, I am now selling my art direct to collectors through Saatchi Art online. I have had a regular art Newsletter to keep my clients and customers in touch with my latest artwork. Artist Statement The inspiration for my artwork comes from the seen and unseen energies that connect the universe. My fascination with optics, the study of sight and the behavior of light teaches me how science observes the human body and environment at a molecular level. Using transparency and movement, I paint this alternate view of reality, where instead of forms and object governing my vision, the energetic world is in focus. When I paint I use bold strokes to show where weight and movement create dynamism, and use ribbons of bright colour to indicate the streams of energy. The dynamic relationship with the land that we stand on and the atmosphere around us are woven into the mix. Often I paint the close and harmonious relationship in which people or groups can connect. Quantum physics and science inform my work, and allow me to experience a new vision, a different way of viewing the world. Stepping aside from what the camera sees, I strive to interpret my experience in a holistic style, informed by the spirit and movement of a scene. All my paintings are referenced from drawings in willow charcoal and pastel. I find these materials give the strength of line and delicacy that I need. From these initial sketches the composition emerges and has the benefit of immediacy. This acts as a springboard to inspiration. Each line or brush stroke tells a story, and I’m aware that the energy behind a line can be perceived on the canvas. Where the lines of energy flow in a landscape or a human body, they give information to the eye that we interpret, each in our own way. If we could see energy between things, the relationship between the seer and the seen, then how would our world look? I explore the energetics of the universe in my paintings, and express some of these energies in line and colour. I work quickly and in short bursts, usually covering the whole canvas in one session, then layering colour to imitate the layers that I perceive.
