Artur Abramiv is a multidisciplinary artist and researcher whose practice spans painting, photography, and conceptual art. The central focus of his work is perception — specifically the complex formation of images within the viewer’s consciousness. His projects investigate weakly manifested perceptual modes that may emerge through interaction with intricately organized forms. Abramiv constructs systems in which images are not directly presented, but gradually unfold through interaction with the viewer on the level of sensation and cognition. He works with extreme modes of visual experience — from minimal differences at the threshold of visibility to materially intense color structures and compositions saturated with optical signals. Abramiv is the 2021 Laureate of the Kuindzhi International Prize for his innovative artistic practice, including the experimental series "Thousands of Shades of White / Predator. White Day", first exhibited in 2019. Alongside his artistic practice, Abramiv maintains a parallel practice in photography and documentary work. He began his photography career in 2011 and has since honed his craft in documentary storytelling. From 2020 to 2022, Abramiv covered the ethno-culture of remote Carpathian communities, national food and drink, and animal rights and protection as a regular contributor to National Geographic Traveller. He also covered human rights violations under totalitarian and authoritarian regimes. In 2022, Abramiv photographed the war in Ukraine for National Geographic Traveller, documenting its impact on the civilian population. He worked as an exclusive photographer for Getty Images and a contract photographer for Zuma Press, with his work circulating through international news agencies including Europa Press, DPA, and Reuters. His work has appeared in international publications including The Guardian, The Independent, Der Spiegel, MSNBC, Business Insider, Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Le Temps, La Stampa, Le Figaro, Newsweek Japan, Der Standard, and The Times. His work has received international recognition from leading institutions and world-renowned artists, noted for its singular, experimental, and conceptually distinctive approach. Abramiv’s practice has garnered numerous prestigious accolades, including the National Geographic Awards, PhotoFest Award, CMIFF Award, Frankfurt Zoological Society Grand Prize, TIPA Photography Award, and the Shutterstock Impact Award.
