ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Limited Edition giclee paper print from an original oil painting. Dimensions shown are image size, not inclusive of white border. Proofed, signed and numbered by the artist, with certificate of authenticity. A staple of surrealism is juxtaposition. Which means placing unexpected visual elements side by side. However, I also like playing with juxtaposing a subjects’ intended uses or characteristics. Observing my cat has become a favorite new pastime of mine. Minus a very few hours of daily activity, there is a whole lot of laziness going on. This idea came about as a result of that observation — the contrast of the relaxed feline lifestyle with that of a driver of industry. I had great fun with this, and so it may become the first in a new series of intimate animal portraits.

About the Artist Award-winning oil painter Paul Bond was born in 1964 in Guadalajara, Mexico, and currently lives and works in Southern California and Costa Rica. Paul Bond's art lives in the spaces between dreaming and reality. Drawing from the Latin American genre of Magic Realism, his paintings merge symbolic, surreal and fantastic elements with realistic atmospheres to unveil a world where everything is possible. At times, they simply express a whimsical aspect of life. Yet most works also carry deeper metaphysical and philosophical messages illuminating the world of our dreams and subconscious thoughts, fears and hopes. Bond’s work has won numerous awards and been featured in galleries, museums and cultural centers, including The Gateway Museum and The San Diego Art Institute. His paintings are now in private collections throughout the US, and worldwide. Corporate collections include Fox, Warner Bros and NBC Studios, Royal Caribbean International, Marriott Hotels, Scripps and Stanford Hospitals; and his works are featured in numerous contemporary art publications.
