About The Artwork

"Reclining White Nude" is signed, limited edition print series of 25 deriving from my spring 2020 painting series. White nudes are a subject that seems to emerge fairly often and spontaneously in my work. I never really intend to paint one. They seem to just happen. They reflect a deepening interest in recent years in tonal painting. Tonal painting uses very little color and relies heavily on the use of varying tones and shades of a single color. It is a particular challenge to create the contrast and drama that I love so much using only one color. In my attempts to paint tonally, I am particularly inspired the work of Mexican modern master, Rufino Tamayo. It was his works with tonal painting that really set my feet firmly on this particular path. This piece is a dramatic, museum grade giclee print with a 2 inch white border included in the overall size of the print.

Technology has played an important role in the development of my work as an artist. Though I consider myself primarily a painter, I feel that much of my most original and progressive work is in the newly emergent digital medium. I grew up artistically in the heart of a technological hub and this was central to the integration of technology with my art. I do not believe that technology is "the" future of art. I believe that technology, like every innovation in art before it, is an exciting new aspect of modern art and I feel honored to be a part of that. I am also a theorist on the nascent field of contemporary metapsychology.
